Sweet potatoes are already so sweet and delicious on their own that I really don't think they need all the gunk like marshmallows that are typical of a Thanksgiving dinner. Just peel, cube and toss in some oil or melted butter and toss them in a 350 degree oven to roast until soft. A light sprinkling of brown sugar on top for extra carmelization is a nice touch, but not necessary at all.
I accidentally picked up a white-fleshed yam and actually think it makes for better presentation and will do it on purpose next time! Mixing the white in breaks up the sea of orange and tastes great too. A little greenery such as a sprig of mint completes this simple yet tasty dish.

Sweet potatoes seem to be the new 'in' thing just as wheat is to white bread and brown rice is to white rice. I actually prefer sweet potatoes over regular baking potatoes for the color and flavor. You've captured them beautiful in your picture!
Because of its GI index it is a better option than potatoes, but if you ask me...a lot tastier!!!
mmmm...I love sweet potatoes~! and yours look delicious. =) I want some now.
I completely agree with you: I also like my sweet potatoes savory. Have you tried adding some Indian spices to the potatoes before roasting them? It's really good!
I definitely agree with your view that sweet potatoes are fantastic on their own. I actually like to roast them with some cumin & chili powder (& a bit of olive oil)... it's unexpected, but fantastic!
Your version sounds lovely too - & that picture is great!
This is comfort food for me. looks yummy =D
I am SO in agreement about the marshmallow on sweet potato thing, I've only ranted about it twice on my blog :)
Joelen - yes, along with pomegranates!
Nina - I just looked up GI index and yes, you're right. Thanks for teaching me something new!
Piee - Thanks!
Olga - Indian spices sound great, I'll have to give that a try in the future.
jd - cumin and chili sound wonderful too. I love spicy food.
noobcook - any starch is comfort food to me! haha
Hillary - I'm so glad we're on the same page when it comes to marshmallows =)
I totally agree sweet potatoes are so good on their own, no need to add all that other stuff!
I love sweet potatoes, I haven't had them for a while though!
This is such a delicious and healthy way to eat sweet potatoes. Sometimes I and Yukon Golds and some red onion. Yum! Great blog!
